Formulation Fact 01
We use Kappaphycus alvarezii extract, derived from algae, instead of Laminaria saccharina extract or Ascophyllum nodosum extract, which often contains higher levels of iodine. Some algae naturally accumulate iodine from seawater as part of their growth process. Excessive exposure to iodine can potentially disrupt thyroid hormone balance. For this reason, we carefully review the iodine content of all algae-derived extracts used in our formulations, ensuring that levels remain within our limits and aligned with EWG Verified standards.

We use Coco-Caprylate/Caprate for its skin conditioning benefits and silky, gliding, non-greasy texture instead of the cyclic siloxanes Cyclotetrasiloxane (D4), Cyclopentasiloxane (D5), and Cyclohexasiloxane (D6) that present concerns around carcinogenicity, reproductive toxicity, and environmental harm – highly persistent, bioaccumulative and/or toxic to the aquatic environment.

We don’t formulate with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) salts such as Disodium EDTA, Trisodium EDTA or Tetrasodium EDTA. Manufacturing EDTA and its salts involves reacting ethylenediamine, a harmful substance associated with reproductive toxicity. Unfortunately, EDTA and its salts may contain trace amounts of this substance. EDTA and its salts are also persistent and can harm the environment.
